EOTC This week was EOTC week. EOTC (education outside the classroom) is basicly a week of going on school trips. On Monday we went to the Orakei Marae. First we did the Hongi with the children and adults at the marae. Then we were split into groups of boys and girls. The boys went off and learnt a Haka while the girls went and learnt a poi dance. The poi dance was fun even though I am not very good with pois. When the dance was perfect we performed the poi dance to the boys and they performed their Haka to us. They were very loud. Then we learnt a bit about the history of the marae and finally we went back to school on the bus. On Tuesday we went to Tree Adventures where we did courses one-four. We were put into groups of not confident people and confident people. I was in the group of confident people. First we had to learn how to use the carabenas. Then we had to go and practice using them on the practice course where there was a big que. Finally we went on the actuall courses which got harder and harder. At the end of each course there was a flying fox which really fun. Tree Adventures was one of the highlights of EOTC for me. On Wednesday we walked down to the Wiatarua Reserve to do Orienteering. First we did course one and had to use our map to work out where we were and find special orange markers with certain numbers on them. We had to find out if it was the right marker by matching it with the number on the map. When we were done we bought it back to one of the teachers who checked if they were right. Then we ate lunch and had to do another course! After that we played a few games of Go Home Stay Home and finally we walked back to school. On Thursday we went to the wave pools. My dad came as one of the parent helpers. When the waves turned on they were really big. The waves turned on lots of times. The water was really warm and there was even a spa. There was also a slide which I went on a couple of times too. As well as that there was a place which the lifeguard opened sometimes for people to bomb! I went on it and made one of the biggest splashes. Thursday was the last day of EOTC and it was also one of the highlights for me as well!
